About AORI
Designed for quieter homes
AORI was created from a simple thought.
That the home is the place where the pace is allowed to slow.
Where the evening sun may linger a little longer.
Where linen curtains move in the open doorway.
Where the materials of nature remind us that beauty does not need to be perfect.
A home does not become more beautiful with more things. Only with the right ones.
Philosophy
At AORI, we choose materials whose character has already been formed by time, earth and nature. Travertine, wood and clay each carries its own story.
We simply reveal it.
The founder
The story behind AORI
AORI really began with a coincidence.
One evening I came across an advert for a lamp in travertine — and I could not let it go. I began researching the stone, its origins and the possibilities of the material. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became.
A material created over thousands of years. Full of pores, veins and variations, so that no two pieces are ever quite alike. And at the same time a material with a weight and permanence that lets it follow a home for many years.
That became the beginning of AORI.
The dream of creating something of my own had been there for a long time. I come from a world of sales and service, but for years I had the feeling that something else was waiting. When my son was born, that feeling became a decision. I did not simply want to return to the life I knew. I wanted to build my own.
At the same time, my relationship with my home began to change.
I had always bought on feeling. Things I fell in love with one by one, but which together never quite created the calm I was looking for. Slowly, I began to choose differently. Fewer things. Better materials. Objects I wanted to keep.
I discovered how much our surroundings actually shape the way a home feels.
That is the thought AORI is built around.
Natural stone, wood, ceramics and other honest materials. Objects with calm in their form, yet with enough character to be noticed. Things that do not need to shout to have a presence in a room.
I chose the name AORI because it could stand on its own. Short, simple and without a fixed meaning. A name that could earn its meaning through the universe we build around it.
AORI is still only the beginning of what I want to create. My goal is to develop a recognisable design language and, in time, to let more and more objects take shape specifically for AORI — with the materials of nature as the starting point and the same thought behind them:
Fewer things. Chosen with greater care. Made to stay.
A calmer home begins with a few true things.
