Beige or Silver Travertine — Which Should You Choose?
Short answer: Beige travertine has warm cream and sand tones and suits warm, natural rooms with wood, linen and brass. Silver travertine is cooler, with grey veining, and suits modern spaces with black, steel and cool colours. Choose based on your palette — the character of the stone is the same.
What is the difference?
Both are the same rock — travertine, a porous limestone formed at mineral-rich springs. The difference lies in the minerals present during formation: beige travertine (also called classic or ivory) carries warm iron and lime tones, while silver travertine received its grey banding from other minerals. They share the pores, veining and living texture.
When to choose beige?
Beige travertine is the classic — the stone the Romans built with. It harmonises with warm materials: oak, walnut, linen, wool and warm white. At AORI we work with this type, because its warmth matches calm, Nordic interiors.
When to choose silver?
Silver travertine suits the cooler expression: concrete floors, black steel, grey textiles and monochrome palettes. Its veining is often more contrasted and graphic — striking in modern bathrooms and minimalist rooms.
Any difference in care?
No — both are limestone with the same needs: avoid acids, wipe with a soft damp cloth, and let the patina develop. See our complete care guide.
